I love texture too. A trick I like to use is overlaying paper texture. I also start with a canvas that has a texture and midtone to it. It can help to mitigate the 'too smooth' fake feeling.

Thanks for the tips! <3 I really wanna get good at rendering more interesting different surfaces so those you mentioned are good to keep in mind. Need to keep experimenting.
